There’s been a lot of going ons at BHW since the last post, plenty of new arrivals and PSF’s all confirmed. The squad is looking in good shape with a new fresh look and two key players signing extensions to their current contracts. Ronnie Henry signed his new contract back in May but more recently we finalised a new 3 year contract for top goalscorer Steve Morison which has turned out to be the signing of the summer! Despite there being a clause in the contract that Moro can leave at the end of next season if promotion isn’t achieved you have to believe with his goals and a strong experienced squad we have perhaps the best chance in recent years to finally get out of this league. That all still depends on the style of play Westley will use of course but if you believe that he is a changed man then we shouldn’t be disappointed.
As I see it if Westley does go back to his old ways he won’t be in the job very long. Morison’s new contract overshadowed Boro’s two latest arrivals of Kidderminster’s striker Iyseden Christie and Lee Boylan from Cambridge. Both have Conference experience that Wallace seemed to keep talking about at the fans forum in May and both can score goals too. However with Westcarr, Thomas, Morison and Willock, competition will be fierce. Despite being slightly injury prone if Boylan can stay fit you have to believe he is more than capable of scoring plenty of goals in this division and with Christie, who is someone who definately impressed me during the FA Trophy Final against us gives the team a different option one similar to what Westley would of gone for in his previous spell!
With the arrival of Boylan’s Cambridge team mate Mark Albrighton and young Ebbsfleet prospect Michael Bostwick, Westley finally made the decision we’ve all been waiting for by transfer listing Ashley “I can jump into a tackle two footed cos’ I want to!” Westwood. However it seems we maybe lumbered with him as no one seems to want him! With Albrighton you may not get pace or style but he is a solid defender who was an important player for Play-Off runners up Cambridge United. Michael Bostwick is a good young defender/midfielder who could be an excellent prospect in the next few years.
Along with Westwood we may also be saying goodbye to Jersey’s finest Peter Vincenti and Irish leprechaun midfielder Wayne O’Sullivan who were transfer listed last month to slim the squad down slightly, maybe for more arrivals?
The PSF’s brought up a big surprise with a trip to Kent to play cash strapped Gillingham. With several former Boro players on show it will be well worth a trip and hopefully we’ll be joining them in the Football League come May. Another former Stevenage boss and Championship manager Peter Taylor brings his League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers to BHW. Other games include Peterborough, Leyton Orient, the world’s richest club QPR, Hitchin, Hendon, Borehamwood, Northwood and best of all a trip to the seaside at Bognor Regis Town!
With plenty to look forward to including our new WHITE home shirt with a bit of support and luck we maybe seeing the Football League finally stopping at BHW. Roll on August!
