The squad numbers for this season have been announced and there are some changes that are worth noting. The only players to retain their squad number from last season are John Martin (15), Steve Morison (20) and Ronnie Henry (25). The other players who were here last season that have changed their numbers include Mitchell Cole who is now number 21 after being 11 ever since he joined from Southend and Daryl McMahon who is now surprsingly number 13. Luke Oliver moves up 1 to 5 as new signing Eddie Anaclet takes 4, while Lawrie Wilson has also been promoted to the number 2 shirt from number 12. The full list of the new squad numbers can be seen on the official site.
Regarding the new away shirt, after buying my new home one on Friday I was told that the new away shirt will be out in 2 weeks time. This won’t be out in time for the friendly away at Gillingham, which is a week tomorrow, but will be out for the first home pre-season game against QPR. I assume that it is the Blue shirt with the White and Gold trim that was seen in the recent video interview with Bob Makin and will probably cost the same as the home shirt.
Lastly a video of the Stevenage Borough “Open Day” at the clubs Shephalbury Park Training Ground can be seen now on the Comet website. Fair play to Peter Vincenti, who even after not being given a squad number and currently on the transfer list took part fully in the day. A sign of a true professional. I hope he makes a good impression in pre-season and possibly changes GW’s mind going into the new season.
