Boyd back at Boro

George Boyd’s Peterborough United are the next visitors to Broadhall Way on Tuesday night. Posh will be looking to build on an impressive 4-1 victory over a youthful Liverpool XI, while Boro will be looking to bounce back after being beaten on Saturday by Championship side QPR. With Hendon (A) on Thursday I expect that Westley will again field a strong team for the Peterborough game and play the reserve team at Hendon. Wycombe is also on the Friday after the Hendon game and again GW will want to play his first team for that.

Boro played Peterborough last pre-season drawing 1-1 at Broadhall Way. A John Nutter penalty gave Boro an early lead, but Josh Low equalised just after half time. Much has changed since then, but Boyd will be coming back to another former manager in Graham Westley, arguably the man that gave Boyd his chance at Boro. Like that day, Posh again will field a strong side as they step up their preparations for League 1 after winning promotion last season.

There are injury doubts over Ashley Bayes, Steve Morison and Calum Willock going into the game on Tuesday evening. Both Willock and Bayes missed the QPR game, while Morison went off injured mid way through the second half. It’s unknown whether any of these players will return in time for the game.

Away from the pre-season programme, Boro have announced the reserve fixtures for the forthcoming season. A trip to London Road and Peterborough will be first up for the reserves on September 10th before the first home game against Watford a week later. They end the season with a trip to Watford on April 6th. All of the home games will be played on a Wednesday night. Boro play 7 games before Christmas and 10 games after the new year.
