Woking Preview

Boro are on the road again today as they make the trip round the M25 to face old rivals Woking. Both sides were involved in FA Cup replays during the week, but while Boro made it through to face Leicester City in the first round, the Cards went out after being beat 1-0 at Stonebridge Road against Ebbsfleet United. Woking currently find themselves at the wrong end of the table after a poor start to the season which led to the sacking of Kim Grant in September. Since then Phil Gilchrist has taken over and results are slowly beginning to improve.

The Cards’ problem this season has been scoring goals. They have only scored 13 goals in their opening 16 games and even resorted to signing Tony Thorpe to solve their goalscoring problems. Things must have been getting desperate down at Kingfield! Woking did go on a 4 match unbeaten run until recently when York beat them 2-0 at Kingfield. Since then they have picked up 1 point away at Grays before the two games in the FA Cup against Ebbsfleet. As for team news, it’s expected that Lenny Pidgeley will keep goal before he returns to Millwall. Goma Lambu is expected to miss out while former Boro defender, if only for a short time, Colin Miles limped off against Ebbsfleet in the week.

Boro have no new injuries to report from the win over Horsham in midweek. Callum Willock will be pushing for a start after his 2 goals and assist in that game. Whether Westley decides to continue with Anthony Thomas up front or bring back Mitchell Cole is unknown. GW changed the team quite a bit in midweek so again it could be a team selection that asks more questions than solves this week.

This is a game that we should win if our mindset is in the right place. Some players may already be thinking about the trip to the Walkers in a week and if that happens then Woking might just beat us today. Our form away from home has been poor recently with defeats away to Eastbourne and Torquay in the last month. I’m confident that if we get off to a quick start today then we could come home from Surrey with a convincing victory and the perfect way to prepare for Leicester City in the Cup next week.

Prediction: Woking 0-2 Boro
