Worst so far…

Boro v GraysWe didn’t lose, but that has to be the worst game I have seen so far this season, if not ever. Constant hoofball backwards and forwards and some of the quality shown tonight was laughable. Boro didn’t seem to have a shape from the first whistle with Mitchell Cole playing in a free role and the rest of the midfield seemingly taking turns to playing in the middle. Willock was very slow on the ball tonight in what was an unchanged team from the weekend.

Grays set up playing 4-4-2, but never really threatened going forward. Both Slabber and Thomas were starved a bit of service, but looked poor when they did get the chance. Slabber just gets worse everytime I see him play. Damian Batt also made a return to Broadhall Way at left back for the visitors, but had little to do all evening.

The first half was a bit of a non-event really and it wasn’t until late in the half when Ronnie Henry was fouled in the box that gave Stevenage the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot. Morison stepped up confidently after scoring at the weekend from 12 yards, but saw his shot saved by Button, who looked solid throughout. The shot was at a comfortable height for the keeper to make the save to be honest. At half-time it was 0-0.

The second half was even worse really. It was mostly Luke Oliver hoofing the ball into the Grays half and then getting it back from Jamie Stuart a few seconds later. The first touch from some players tonight was awful, with both Lawrie Wilson and Callum Willock having off nights. Vincenti came on towards the end and had a great chance late on, but saw his shot well saved by Button. I left with a few minutes to go after what was another poor performance at home.
