Boro draw FGR in Trophy while GW scoops award

It’s been a busy transfer deadline day today and not one player has moved in or out of Broadhall Way…yet! Steve Morison continues to be linked with a move to League 1 promotion chasers Millwall, but as yet no deal seems tohave been struck between the two clubs. Millwall will have to pay a high premium if they want to take Moro off GW’s hands with Boro now looking more and more like promotion contenders themselves. As for players coming in, I don’t really expect any permanent moves after Jon Ashton’s move from Grays last week. Westley has said before that he may wait until the loan window re-opens and make a move or two then.
“A lot of fuss gets made about the transfer window – if there’s something that we can do, and want to do, then we will. The loan transfer window re-opens a week later and players can still come and go after that so we will obviously keep looking at that” Westley on the transfer window
Away from Broadhall Way, ex Boro striker Iyseden Christie has joined Torquay United on a contract until the end of the season. Christie’s season has been one big saga after another, mainly due to Kettering being run the way they are. There were complications over Craig Westcarr’s switch in the summer and now the same has happened to Christie’s move. It seems that a fee was agreed, but Kettering decided against the deal and are also not paying the money owed from the loan spell he had at Rockingham Road earlier in the season. Anyway, Christie has now parted company with both sides and moved to Torquay where he will be hoping to concentrate on his football instead of money issues. Other ex Boro players on the move today include Mark Hughes who has joined Barnet from Chester City and Tommy Black who has been released by the Bees after they too discovered he is terrible!
While a lot of the football talk today will be about who’s going back to Shite Hart Lane, the quarter final draw for the FA Trophy has been made. Boro have drawn this weekend’s opponents Forest Green at home in a draw which will please everyone. It is arguably one of the easier teams left in the competition and being at home is always a bonus. Graham Westley will be confident that his side can progress into the semi-finals again. Holders, Ebbsfleet got the short straw and will have to travel to North Wales to visit Wrexham.
Lastly, Graham Westley beat off competition from Roy McFarland, Chris Wilder and Gary Wilson to win the Blue Square manager of the month for January. Boro are now 13 games unbeaten in all competions and looking good for promotion. It wasn’t a double celebration for Boro though as Steve Morison and Mitchell Cole missed out on the player awards to Mansfield’s Scott Garner.
