Biggest game of the season as Kidderminster visit

Stevenage Borough v Kidderminster Harriers. Tomorrow night’s game is arguably bigger than the FA Trophy Final between the two sides in 2007 at the new Wembley Stadium. Boro are a point away from Harriers who are currently in the last remaining play-off spot with just two games remaining. Kiddy drew at the weekend away at Histon, while Stevenage were held by Torquay United in a frustrating encounter at Broadhall Way. Just over two weeks ago, Boro travelled to Aggborough to face Kidderminster and were 2-0 up and cruising at one stage until Darren Murphy’s sending off totally changed the game and in the end the home side ran out 4-2 winners. At that point, Mark Yates’s side looked odds on favourites to pip Boro for the play-offs, but they haven’t taken advantage of the position they were in and now find themselves scrapping for the play-offs in the last week of the season.
Boro are the form team of the Blue Square Premier, with only one defeat this year to their name. Graham Westley’s side have home advantage and look in pretty good nick going into the biggest game of the club’s history to date. It’s that big. I’m confident that if Boro get into the top 5, then they will win promotion with the momentum that the team has gained since Christmas. No one wants to play Stevenage at the moment, especially as players are beginning to come back from injuries and suspensions. Andy Drury came back at the weekend and is a welcome addition to the right hand side. Hopefully if we make the play-offs then David Bridges will be back and he is a matchwinner who I felt we could of done with at the weekend.
“It’s a great game. If you are involved in football, these are exactly the sort of games you’d want to be involved in. It’s nice to be at home. We have won a couple of big ones here recently and it would be nice to make it a hat-trick of big wins on Tuesday. I’ve got a little feeling about this game. I think the best is yet to come.” Westley on facing Kidderminster tomorrow night
Both sides look likely to be missing key defenders for the game. Mark Creighton misses out for the visitors, while Boro will be without Jon Ashton again who is suffering with a shoulder problem at the moment. It’s likely that Bostwick will partner Roberts at the back. Mills and Murphy will again patrol the midfield. The big battle will be at either end. Kiddy have Matthew Barnes-Homer in great form and although Steve Morison isn’t firing at the moment, you know he will come good eventually as he is a lot better than most of the players in the league and just needs that one goal and he will go on another run. Confidence is his problem at the moment, but if he goes back to basics then the goals will follow shortly.
Like GW, I’ve got a really good feeling about this game and think we will win it. It’s not going to be easy as Kidderminster are a good side, but they are always capable of conceding goals and our side is very good at going forward. I expect there to be drama, as always in these types of games, but this is a must win game for Stevenage. Anything less and I expect to be playing Blue Square Premier football again next season.
Prediction: Boro 2-1 Kidderminster
