Could Hayles be returning to Boro?

Stevenage Legend Barry Hayles has confirmed that he is going to play on for one more season, but it’s unlikely that it will be with Cheltenham Town. Hayles, who turned 38 last Tuesday told the local paper that he wants to go out with a bang and not be involved in a relegation scrap. Could he finally be looking to finish his career where it all began, now the club is in the football league?
It was rumoured in January that Stevenage made an offer for Hayles, but the veteran striker rejected a return to Broadhall Way in order to stay and help the Robins fight off relegation from League 2. In the end, Graham Westley opted to sign Tim Sills instead and the rest is history.
“I want to carry on because I feel fit enough and want to give it another season, I still feel good and once the body starts telling me otherwise I will pack up definitely. I honestly don’t know if I will be here next season, although I’d love to stay, I can’t foresee it, but who knows.” Hayles’ view on his future
Hayles has also had his say on Boro’s promotion to the football league.
“I’m very pleased for Stevenage, which is where it all started for me. I had some great times there and it’s about time they came up.” Hayles on Boro’s promotion
In other news, the club has announced the ticket prices for next season. As expected prices have gone up, but not as sharply as I thought they would do. I expected a £2 increase across the board and while the prices of seating has gone up by that amount to £18, standing will only be £14. The highlight of the announcement for me was the price of the season tickets, especially for standing. The club have set them at £250 which has to be said represents great value. It works out as a £72 saving, plus a couple of friendlies thrown in as well. I usually make 95% of the home games, so I’ll definately be taking out the season ticket this time around.
The build up for the FA Trophy final also continues. It’s just over a week now until the big day and the some of the players and staff from both sides visited the national stadium today for the usual media day. Mark Roberts was joined by Michael Bostwick, Graham Westley and Phil Wallace as they wondered around Wembley giving interviews and standing for photos. Some of them photos can be seen on Matt’s BoroPics website here.
Lastly, I spotted this today while looking for something to write about for the blog as it is pretty quiet at the moment. The Online Gooner, which is the leading Arsenal fanzine, has done a bit on the empty Trophy cabinet at the Emirates and references Stevenage. Looks like some ‘gooners’ are giving up going to the Fulham game on the final day to make it to Wembley and the FA Trophy Final just to see a team in red and white win some silverware. Just highlights the number of gloryhunters that attend such games really.
Oh and ha ha.
