The best result in Boro history, hopefully the congestion problem will mean Spurs lose out on the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Europa Cup... promotion should be our focus as well as maximizing gate receipts. A quarter final place is not out of the question as the winners play Bolton...

I used to live in Hitchin and seen Stevanage play a few times in the past. So I always keep an eye on the result. I now live in lincoln and watched them beat Lincoln I Was happy but my friends were not difficult few days at work.
I was wondering if you can tell me if Stevenage have played spurs in a fa cup before although it might have been before they became boro.
Thanks

I think it's fair to say that Smith has certain credentials that ought to be appreciated, scouting for Arsenal, coaching in the lower English leagues and managing an MLS team not totally unsuccessfully. I've watched a few of his MLS press conferences, I think he comes across quite well and seems to know his football enough. I think he's probably as decent a candidate as many of the names rumoured to have been linked with the Boro job.

I have to admit I know very little about the guy, until I looked him up I had no idea what he even looked like. Based on what I now do know about him, I can't really say I'd be opposed to him being appointed as our next manager but at the same time you could view that as not being able to say he'd definitely be a good fit. He seems like a decent candidate nonetheless, I think his time in the States has kept him off the radar of English football fans somewhat, but therefore he probably would come into the club with no 'skeletons in his closet' so to speak.

Might not be a bad appointment, I think Wallace must know more about him than anyone outside the club if he genuinely has shortlisted him for interview this week. I don't really think there is, as far as we know, an outstanding candidate but I've no doubt that Phil Wallace has only shortlisted the best 6 applicants anyway. Hopefully we'll have a new manager before the Notts County cup game.

Having watched Gary Smith - during the 1989/90 season when he was Enfield's Left Back.
I hope he has become a better manager than the player he was.His tackling style was straight out of the Mark Dennis school !

After one of the most turbulent weeks I can remember in my many years as a Boro supporter, I am just glad the matter is closed and we can move on to better things as a club and as fans. Like him or loath him, there's no real doubting that Westley came back here a different character to the one we parted ways with three years before, and ever since his return we've had a constant flow of success. We've reached the point as a club where we are at a higher level than we'd ever have thought possible three-and-a-half years ago, so for all of this at least Westley must take some plaudits.

We've not played the prettiest football under his regime, although there have been many excellent team performances in that time for which the players must still be credited. The players have actually received a lot of unfair criticism and negative publicity under Westley's management, not by any of their own doing but purely by association to a very easily dislikeable character. Great management though it may have been and successful though it was, it was a highly questionable and controversial style that Westley implemented here and which he now takes up to Preston.

I've mostly supported Westley as our manager for the last three-and-a-half years, I've defended him and/or his comments and tactics at times, but there have been many times when even I completely disagreed with him about tactics during a game or things he said in the media. I've thoroughly enjoyed the success we've experienced, but I'm excited for a new era at Boro and I feel that although this 'saga' has come out of the blue (as Westley himself said in his PNE press conference), it was a possibly a good time for us to have a change and move on to better things with a better manager.

If we get someone in who can keep us on the right track, going in the right direction, who is able to appreciate everything we've done to build the current structure at the club but is able to bring in his own styles and ideas to take us forward - then we'll be all the better for breaking out of the 'Westley way'.

Your second paragraph sums up exactly what I've felt about football under Westley. Whereas back to back promotions were great and against expectations I got so fed up watching some games last season that I couldn't be arsed to renew my season ticket.

I've only been to 7 games (all at home ) this season and have seen 1 win against Rochdale, missed all the good wins against the 'top' teams and seen the same old hoofball in the others. In fact after the Orient game with no shots on target I thought that might be my last game for a long while, but now he's gone I'm kinda looking forward to going again (famous last words??)

Anyway, welcome back, I've enjoyed reading in the past and here's to another new brighter start at the Boro
