Reid is a striker who started his career at Coventry City. He failed to break into the first team at the Ricoh Arena and ended up signing for Cheltenham Town after a brief loan spell at Tamworth. Reid’s time at Cheltenham wasn’t a successful one. He made 14 appearances for the Robins, but failed to score. A short spell at Grays followed before Reid joined Newport County, where he finally settled under the management of Dean Holdsworth.
Reid was a big part of the team that ran away with the Conference South title last season, scoring 21 goals in the process. Reid made the step up to the Conference Premier with no problem at all. He hit 18 goals in the first half of the 2010/11 season, but was said to be unhappy at Newport since Holdsworth’s departure to Aldershot.
He moved to Stevenage on the January 2011 transfer deadline day for a record fee. Newport claimed it was a six figure fee, but Boro have played that down. Reid made his debut for Boro against Accrington. His first goal came against Oxford at the Kassam Stadium, but to be honest, the former Newport striker has struggled to make an impact since his big money move. A lot more will be expected of him in the coming months.
