A former trainee at Tottenham. Ronnie Henry joined Boro in early 2005. He was an important member of the side that got to the play-off final that season, losing to Carlisle at the Britannia Stadium. After the disappointment of missing out on the football league, Henry continued to impress at Broadhall Way. He was now more of a regular in the side alongside Jason Goodliffe at the heart of Boro’s backline.
In the summer of 2006 Mark Stimson took over from Graham Westley and immediately installed Henry as well as new signing Santos Gaia at the heart of the Boro defence. The two struck up a good partnership which ultimately led to Boro winning the FA Trophy at the new Wembley. Henry, being the first Captain to lift a trophy at the new stadium.
Things were going well and Henry signed a new contract during the summer of 2997, but then things went pear shaped when Stimson jumped ship and departed for Gillingham. The move unsettled the Boro skipper and he was eventually transfer listed along with Craig Dobson and Alan Julian as well as losing the Captaincy to Ashley Westwood.
The return of Graham Westley seemed to re-ignite Henry’s Boro career, although his “Gary Westley” joke when referring to Gary Mills on Setanta didn’t go down well. Ronnie has been converted to a right back under GW and hasn’t looked back since. He was a vital member of the 2010 title winning side and again he will be an important player for Boro in their first season in the league as the club aims to push on again.
