Alan Julian first joined Stevenage in February 2005 after leaving Brentford. AJ became a fans favourite at Broadhall Way and his impact resulted in the team reaching the Conference play-off final in 2005, which they ultimately lost. Julian continued his fine form into the next season and he was soon being recognised as the best stopper outside the Football League.
Another two solid seasons as Boro’s number 1 led to a summer move to Gillingham where he followed former boss Mark Stimson to Priestfield. Julian joined former teammates Barry Fuller, John Nutter and Stuart Lewis in making the move to Kent. Julian initially struggled to make an impact with Simon Royce keeping the Northern Irishman out of the starting 11.
However, Julian got his chance eventually to make the number 1 spot his own. He spent two seasons in League 2 and one in League 1 with the Gills before he was released in the summer of 2011. A few weeks after his release, he was snapped up again by Graham Westley as Stevenage continue to build ahead of their first season in League 1.
