Day began his career as a trainee at Tottenham making 1 appearance, but never broke through to the first team. He moved to Crystal Palace in 1996 where he was involved in the 1996/1997 team that won promotion back to the Premier League before moving to Watford the following summer in a swap deal for Kevin Miller. In the 4 years he was at Vicarage Road, Day was number 2 to Alec Chamberlain before he was allowed to move to QPR on a free transfer.
Day made 87 appearances in his 4 years at Loftus Road, but suffered a terrible injury early into his career at QPR. He came back though and was again first choice for most of the 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 campaigns. He lost his place to Lee Camp in the latter part of the 03/04 season and was allowed to move to Oldham Athletic in 2005. Day spent just one season at Boundary Park, but was a regular while at Oldham. He was then allowed to move to Millwall in 2006 where he spent 2 years mostly as back-up.
He joined Stevenage in August after impressing Graham Westley in a reserve game against Wycombe Wanderers. Day came in and instantly made an impact on the leaky defence which had already conceded 13 goals in its opening 4 games. He showed that he was a quality goalkeeper with some fine performances which earned Boro a lot of points during the 2008/2009 season as well as winning the FA Trophy in May.
Going into the 2009/2010 season, Day had now established himself as Boro’s number 1, keeping the experienced Ashley Bayes on the sidelines. Day’s good form continued throughout the season and he has become one player that can be relied upon every week. A valuable asset to the club.
