John Mousinho joined Stevenage on a two year contract after leaving Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2010. He started his career at Brentford, gaining some first team experience with loan spells at the likes of Woking, Slough, and Yeading. He made 64 appearances for the Bees in the 3 years he was there before signing for Peter Taylor’s Wycombe in the summer of 2008.
Mousinho became an important member of Taylor’s side that won promotion to League 1. He was also a regular in the side that eventually got relegated back to League 2 last season. Mousinho was a defensive midfielder at Adams Park, that could also cover at right back. He even had a spell in goal once when a certain Clark Masters had got himself sent off while playing for Brentford. Mousinho is a ball winning player, a no thrills player that can intercept a pass and get the attack moving again.
Mousinho rejected a new contract at Wycombe to sign a 2 year deal with Stevenage. Graham Westley said that Mousinho signed for Boro because he wanted a more attacking role and GW saw that side of him in his play. Mous’ linked up well with Michael Bostwick in the centre of Boro’s midfield and soon became a fan’s favourite with his consistent displays.
He became a key player in the second half of Boro’s season as the team pushed towards the play-offs. He grabbed some vital goals in the run-in before getting sent off against Northampton in the penultimate game of the season. He missed 3 games, including the play-off semi final against Accrington, but returned for the Final to play a major part. He scored the only goal of the game to clinch Boro’s second successive promotion. He will be a vital member of the team in League 1.
