Winn began his career at Scunthorpe United, progressing all the way from the youth teams to make his debut for the first team in 2006, aged 18. He is a left footed wide player, but can also play up front. Interestingly Winn began his career as a goalkeeper, but youth coaches at Scunthorpe saw potential in him to become a winger. Winn was named the club’s young player of the season in 2006/2007 and continued to make good progress at Glanford Park.
It was the 2008/2009 season when Winn really started to play some regular football. The youngster was sent on loan to Northwich Victoria to gain some first team experience and he did well, making 9 appearances and scoring 1 goal for the Vics. After returning from Northwich, Winn was sent on loan again, this time to Barrow. He only made a handful of appearances for Barrow before returning to Scunthorpe.
Winn was on the move again in the 2009/2010 season. He joined Gateshead on loan until the end of the season after failing to break through to the first team at Scunthorpe. Winn showed a lot of promise at the International Stadium and was a regular in the Gateshead side that avoided relegation from the Blue Square Premier. He made 24 appearances, scoring 4 goals. After returning to Glanford Park, Winn was told that he was surplus to requirements and subsequently signed for Stevenage on a 1 year deal.
Winn struggled to pin down a regular place in the Boro line up, but did show brief glimpses of what he can offer over the course of the season. His highlight of the season was his performance against Newcastle, in which he slotted in the 3rd goal in the giantkilling of the year. Winn agreed a new 1 year deal to stay at Broadhall Way for the 2011/12 season.
