He looks more like a lead guitarist in a band than a footballer, but Robbie Sinclair was one of Stevenage’s new signings for the 2010/2011 campaign. He joined the club after his contract expired at Salisbury.
Sinclair began his career at Luton, making his way up from their youth and reserve teams. However, he failed to make the grade at Kenilworth Road and after a loan spell at Salisbury, he was released by manager Mick Harford before the 2008/2009 season. Salisbury pounced on the opportunity to sign Sinclair on a permanent basis and the young midfielder went on to impress in the Blue Square Premier.
Sinclair has been a regular in the Salisbury squad over the last couple of seasons after making his debut against Northwich in February 2008. He went on to make 68 appearances, scoring 7 goals. Salisbury would have liked to have kept him on, but with the Wiltshire side now facing demotion to the Southern League it looks like their squad will be broken up and Boro have been able to get hold of their man.
Graham Westley has obviously seen enough in Sinclair’s ability over the last couple of season’s to believe he can slot into the Stevenage team and hack it at League level. Sinclair enjoyed a good first season at Broadhall Way, if a little inconsistent. He proved to be technically efficient, but a bit lightweight. Injury was also a problem for Sinclair and this stopped him from ever really challenging for a first team spot every week.
Sinclair showed enough quality in the 2010/11 season, but now has to prove himself in League 1. He will need a bit more luck with injuries, but there’s no doubting his ability.
