The highly rated midfielder joined Boro in the summer of 2009 after leaving Ebbsfleet due to financial restraints at the Kent club. Long played for England at Youth level whilst at Charlton before being released, joining Notts County. Long didn’t last long though at County and moved back South to Ebbsfleet where he became a fans favourite almost instantly.

Long was a regular for Liam Daish’s side and quickly gained admirer’s from football league clubs after putting in some impressive performances. He’s a midfielder that can play right, left or centre and offered Graham Westley a degree of versatility going into his first season with the club.

Long’s opening season at Boro wasn’t as successful as everyone thought it would be. Stacy didn’t break into the first team at Broadhall Way for the first few months of the season, but when he did, he showed everyone what he could do. The Christmas and New Year period was Long’s best period of the season and his two goals against Kettering proved that. With the fierce competition in the Boro side, Long was in and out of the team until the end of the season.

Boro’s first season in the Football League saw Long play a bit more of a pivotal role in the side. He often occupied the left wing side and enjoyed a good season in League 2. Highlights included his performance against Newcastle United, his first goal against Southend and the goal in the play-offs semi final against Accrington Stanley.
